In 2020 Guinand is celebrating the 155th birthday of the brand with a limited edition of 15 pieces, which is based on a model from the 1970s – the 155.72 chronograph.
This anniversary model 155.72 comes in a classic case/shape and for the first time in the 155 series (Frankfurt Meisterstück, Pilot Officer). This watch features a striking blue galvanized dial. To differenciate from the unlimited serial model, the Guinand 155.72 features orange hands on the sub counters. The stop second hand is orange as well. Hour and minute hand are stainless steel with luminous inlay. The rotor of the 155.72 is engraved with the limitation no. engraving and there is a special pin buckle.
In 1865, brothers Julien-Alcide and Charles-Léon Guinand founded Guinand Frères to manufacture watches in the Jura mountains. Interestingly, Gallet family, related to the Guinand family, exported their watches to Germany, Scandinavia, and US.
The post WWII years saw a high volume of orders – the demand for watches was enormous. The range of Guinand watches covered 200 models with extensive customer list including well-known names, like Ancora and Zenith. One of the big customers of Guinand since 1960 was a pioneer from Frankfurt, Helmut Sinn. Developing his own caliber in 1950s with central minute counter, caliber HS58, a passionate pilot and a race car driver, Helmut made a significant impact on development of cockpit instruments. Helmut Sinn considered Guinand as a reliable and a like-minded partner. From the mid-1960s to the 1990s, Guinand manufactured a significant share of watches for the Sinn.
The 155.72 model features easy to read chronograph counters and the design of Guinand’s 60s pilot-classic Flying Officer. The case is made of three parts, the stainless steel in middle, the screwed top, and the screwed case bottom ring. The front sapphire crystal is slightly curved and has anti-reflective coating, while the sapphire crystal on the case back is flat for optimum wearing comfort.
