Bell & Ross watches have developed their iconic image based on the instrument panels you would find in the cockpit of a plane. The branding of these instrument watches is built on four basic principles – legibility, functionality, precision, and reliability. They make great tool watches which are easy to read in even the most difficult conditions.
One of the variant models of Bell & Ross’ vintage collection is the BR 126 Sport Heritage GMT and Flyback. This watch is a combination of many style variants of the original Sport chronograph series. If you combine the BR 126 Sport with gold numerals and hands, add a GMT 24 hour clock to one of the sub-dials, add the flyback chronograph function, then you have the Sport Heritage GMT and Flyback.
The Flyback aspect of the watch is a complication that allows the chronograph to reset to zero without first stopping and restarting the function. The Heritage aspect of this watch is meant to give it a vintage, military look, and with the golden numerals and overall theme, this watch accomplishes that look very well. The original Sport adds a fixed bezel, whereas this model has a Tachymeter Bezel.
The Bell & Ross Flyback has a polished, 43mm round steel case. The dial is black with gold numerals. The watch has a domed sapphire crystal front which enhances the vintage appearance without being unmarketable to modernist watch enthusiasts. The sub-dials are a seconds counter at the 3 o’clock position, and a 24 hour counter at the 9 o’clock position. The GMT button is located at 10 o’clock and it is very easy to set the second time zone. The applied 12 and 6 numerals enhance the visual of the dial nicely. This watch is powered by workhorse ETA 2892-2 with a Dubois-Depraz chronograph module.
The BR 126 Sport Heritage GMT & Flyback is a one of the cleanest chronographs on the market, yet it is jack of all trade with useful GMT complication, date, 100m water rating, and flyback chronograph. It does have the faux vintage appearance (even with the stamped leather strap), but I can happily state that it does not have faux patina which can get old quickly. B&R Flyback chronograph is limited to 500 editions and has a retail of $7900. Visit Bell & Ross website for more information.
